The Austrian Ostomy Association
The Austrian Ostomy Association is founded in 1975. We are divided in 12 different regional chapters with approximately 480 members (2008), nearly each chapter has his own board. 5 regional presidents are member of the National Board, each elected for a period of two years.
In Austria all basic appliances are free of charge. All basic supplies ostomates need are paid by the different health insurers. In some cases additional products are not free of charge, it depends on the health insurer.

The Austrian Ostomy Association set objectives to promote a physical, mental and social condition, favourable as possible for people with a stoma or pouch and people who have had a stoma.
Objectives:
- Support its members and their interests.
- Acts as promoter at different health insurers and government institutions.
- Provide information on living with a stoma or pouch and concerning relevant developments in that area.
- Work together with scientific, educational and healthcare institutions.
- Is for its work dependent on advertising in “ilco Magazin” and donations.
- Is economically and administratively independent.
