Federation of the Italian Ostomy Associations

The Federation of the Regional Italian Ostomy Associations was founded in 2002 and is actually composed by the Ostomy Associations of 14 Italian Regions (the majour ones, on 20 italian regions); about 2.500 people entered the regional associations associated to FAIS on 2007.

Each regional association sends two delegates to the FAIS Assembly and they elect the FAIS board.

The FAIS board is renewed every three years with new elections.

The national wealth insurance distributes a standard quantity of appliances to the ostomates free of charge. Special procedures must be followed by who needs further quantities. All the products for ostomates are financed by the regional wealth offices which receive the necessary resources by the national fiscal income.

FAIS is a no profit association and all the members of its board, president included, work on voluntary base, only.

MISSION STATEMENT

To join together the regional ostomy associations and whoever wants to cooperate to the reintroducing of ostomated into his or her family and social life.

OBJECTIVES

  • To help and to protect all the ostomates through the helping and the coordination of the regional ostomy associations during their own activity.
  • To provide for the hospitals and political wealth authorities information and knowledge on the ostomated conditions of life and on the illnesses which may cause an ostomy.
  • To preserve the conditions which allow ostomates to choose the properest appliances for them free of charge.
  • To let ostomy people know the existence of their own association, also via TV spots or advertisiments on various newspaper. Hundreds of ostomatated or their relatives telephoned the FAIS secretary on 2007, after a spot broadcast on national and regional televisions.
  • To help the development of studies, products and solutions which may help the ostomated life.
  • To maintain the economic and administrative independence.
