The Dutch Ostomy Association.
The Dutch Ostomy Association is founded in 1966 and has approximately 7.000 members (2007). We are devided in 8 different regional chapters, each chapter has his own board. All regional presidents are member of the National Board.
In the Netherlands all appliances are free of charge. All supplies ostomates need are paid by the health insurer. Every civilian is compulsory insured a basic health insurance at € 1100,00 a year and have to pay € 150,00 so called "own risc". On top of that there is a possibility for an additional insurance for additional care as there are dentist a.s.o.
Mission statement
The Dutch Ostomy Association set objectives to promote a physical, mental and social condition, favourable as possible for people with a stoma or pouch and people who have had a stoma.
Objectives:
- Support its members and their interests.
- Acts as promoter at health insurers and government institutions.
- Provide information on living with a stoma or pouch and concerning relevant developments in that area.
- Is for its work dependent on subsidies, the contributions from her members and donations.
- Is administratively independent.
